If sending the entire executive team to a tailored workshop at Harvard Business School isn’t going to happen this year, developing your organisation’s most senior leaders is still within reach. You don’t have to look far or even outside your organisation to provide a high-quality development experience. You just need a great mentoring program.

When we started collecting data on our mentoring programs at Serendis Leadership several years ago, our main focus was on how the program benefited mentees in their personal and professional growth. We were surprised to see the jump in our mentors’ development as well. Looking back, it seems obvious, but at the time the extent of the impact the program was having on mentors was surprising. They reported:

– A broader and deeper perspective on junior colleagues’ experience and the business or industry.
– Improved mentoring and coaching skill and confidence.
– Deep reflection on and refinement of their leadership approach.
– Application of their insights within their immediate teams.

Not all mentoring programs are created equal, so it is important to be discerning when selecting a provider or going it alone. You want your people to go beyond just “nice coffee catchups”. Proper planning, preparation, and the right tools yield the best results.

With over 15 years’ experience running internal and cross-industry mentoring programs on local, national, and global scales, we’ve encountered our fair share of stories about what didn’t work.

This has led us to developing high-quality, development focused programs delivered to over 1,000 participants globally each year.
